What Manner of Persons Ought Ye to Be? The day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be? Peter’s words were meant to impact our conscience and move us to action, understanding the great blessing and hope given us, as well as what is soon coming upon the earth and upon all mankind! Has this understanding been burned into our consciousness to such a degree to govern our daily thoughts and activities? Have we not been warned as to respective destinies awaiting us!

Rachel Took the Images

Why did Rachel take her father’s images? It must have been for an important reason, knowing that Jacob would be accused of the theft and it would put him in grave danger. Various speculative interpretations have been proposed over the long history of exegesis concerning this question of Rachel’s unexplained theft of her father’s images on the eve of Jacob’s secret departure. We suggest that a more honorable reason for Rachel’s theft of her father’s pagan images might be explained by archaeological evidence discovered about 90 years ago in northern Iraq (ancient Mesopotamia). A possible and more satisfying answer is revealed in a clay tablet inscription of what became known as the “Nuzi tablets” …
