It is clear that our nearness to God, or our distance from God, is largely a matter of our own choosing. God is faithful and just: He will keep His promises and cooperate with us in our efforts to do what He asks us to do. He has promised that then He will draw near to us, for so we read: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you (James 4:8). How can we know when we are near to God? Is it just a matter of asking ourselves and returning an immediate
